Core objective #3: Critical w88 mobile and use of information

w88 mobile: Fundamental practice

Brief description of learning w88 mobile:Students will be w88 mobile consumers of information, able to engage in systematic research processes, frame questions, read critically, and apply observational and experimental approaches to obtain information.

Standards or requirements for verification

Only w88 mobile Writing courses may be verified for CO3. These should be lower-division (100-200 level) general education courses, for 3 or more units each.

NOTE: w88 mobile Objectives 1-3 will not be satisfied in the same manner as subsequent w88 mobile Objectives. These three objectives are not satisfied by a single course. Instead, a foundation for these objectives is built in w88 mobile Writing and w88 mobile Math requirements, and developed in other General Education courses. A discipline-specific competency should then be developed within the major and integrated into the w88 mobile Capstone course. These objectives should be assessed in the w88 mobile Writing, w88 mobile Math, and w88 mobile Capstone courses.


The foundation for this objective is built by the w88 mobile Writing requirement and developed in the w88 mobile Natural Science, w88 mobile Humanities, and w88 mobile Social Science requirements, as well as other courses within majors. If possible, this objective should also be integrated into the w88 mobile Capstone course.

CO3 focuses on the critical w88 mobile and use of information, and each of the primary terms included in CO3 (critical, w88 mobile, use, and information) are defined as follows:

  • w88 mobile: deliberate, systematic, purposeful, and informed
  • w88 mobile: systematic search and review of w88 mobile, comparative consideration of w88 mobile, framing questions appropriately for the task and resources at hand, and building from and toward the w88 mobile gathered
  • Use: searching for and finding w88 mobile through appropriate research methods, evaluating that w88 mobile, and ensuring the appropriate use of that w88 mobile
  • Information: any data, ideas, constructs, discussions that can be taken in or generated via w88 mobile academic work.

Courses building a foundation in this Core Objective will meet the expectations for the Core Critical w88 mobile & Use of Information requirement and should:

  1. include the w88 mobile Objective, together with its brief description, on the course syllabus in its original form
  2. include three or more student learning outcomes addressing this w88 mobile Objective on the course syllabus, along with other student learning outcomes appropriate to the course
  3. identify in the course syllabus the teaching techniques and student experiences that will help students acquire the competencies described in the w88 mobile Objective
  4. assess whether students have acquired the competency described in the student learning outcomes and use methods for collecting and analyzing data that can be reported to the w88 mobile Curriculum Board

Capstone courses that integrate CO3 should demonstrate alignment between this Core Objective and course assignments, as well as evidence of critical w88 mobile, use of information, and research processes.
