Program description

The Research & Innovation Faculty Travel w88 program is designed to support faculty in funding travel and related expenses that further the faculty member’s research, creative or scholarly activities. Through this program, Research & Innovation supports travel that will have clear outcomes linked to the University’s strategic goals and a positive impact for the faculty and their department.

Travel support under this w88 Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is not restricted to attendance at academic conferences. Applications are encouraged that propose travel to visit collaborators or successful programs at other institutions, including national laboratories, federal agencies and other universities.

The Faculty Travel w88 will support all allowable travel costs, as well as conference registration. See budgetary information for details.

Eligibility information

Applicants for the CLA/RSJ Travel w88 must hold at least a 50% FTE academic faculty appointment within either the College of Liberal Arts or the Reynolds School of Journalism and have a current role statement that includes research or professional development responsibilities.

Limit on number of proposals per PI

A faculty member may submit only one proposal to a single deadline of either the CLA/RSJ Faculty Travel w88 or the all-campus Faculty Travel w88.

Limit on number of awards per PI

A w88 member may be awarded only one award every two years.

Proposal preparation and submission instructions

Full proposals must not exceed three pages and must use the format stipulated in the proposal format section.

Applications w88 submitted through InfoReady w88.

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. by one w88 due dates in the deadlines section.

Budgetary information

Total budget requests must not exceed ,000.

Proposals may request funds to support total costs in the following categories:

  • Conference registration
  • Airline costs
  • Ground transportation
  • Hotel costs
  • Per diem

w88 and selection process

Applications for the CLA/RSJ faculty travel w88 will be reviewed once a year by a review committee consisting of:

  • Representatives from the University w88 Council
  • A representative from w88 & Innovation

Applications w88 reviewed by the review committee within two weeks of each submission deadline.

The review committee will submit its recommendations for w88 to the Vice President for Research and Innovation. The Vice President for Research and Innovation will make a final determination for w88.

w88 criteria

Applications for CLA/RSJ Faculty Travel w88 will be reviewed using the following criteria:

  • A clear description of the w88 proposed
  • A clear description of the short and long-term outcomes and impact for the w88 event. This includes an explanation of the importance of the scholarly presentation or conference to be attended, if applicable
  • A clear description of the short-term and long-term impact for the w88 member’s research, creative or scholarly activities
  • An explanation of how the desired outcomes and impact align with the strategic goals w88 University, the college or the department
  • Inclusion of a budget and allowable costs

w88 administration information

Notification of the w88 award

Notifications of w88 will be made by email from the Associate Vice President for Research. Notification of w88 will be made to the faculty applicant, their chair, and to the relevant department administrator. Award notifications will be made to the applicants within two weeks after receipt of the review committee’s recommendation.

Award conditions

Funds awarded must be spent within the fiscal year stipulated in the award email and for the purpose proposed in the application. As long as funds are spent within the fiscal year stipulated and for the purpose proposed, the w88 member does not need to notify Research & Innovation of a change in travel dates.

Awarded funds are retained by w88 & Innovation and not transferred to another cost center.

All required w88 paperwork must be completed and approved according to University w88 policies as outlined in the 1,401: w88 casino.

Please note: Payment for w88 needs to take place after the award notification from Research & Innovation. This is to ensure timely expense processing according to the University’s w88 and procurement policies.

The cost center or worktag listed below must be included on the required w88 paperwork for the approved amount. Awarded funds will be applied to the w88 costs once the w88 request has been processed.

w88 authorization and expense submission is processed through the awardee’s department, and you must adhere to your department administrative procedures for w88, including obtaining all the necessary department and college authorizations.

To expend the awarded funds, expenses w88 charged to PG04617, CC0306, FD201 by the end of the awarded fiscal year.

Reporting requirements

Awardees are required to respond to an annual survey requesting details on the outcome of their award.

Please explain the expected outcomes of the proposed travel, and how those outcomes align to the University’s, department’s or college’s strategic goals. Please also explain the expected impacts the proposed travel will have on your research, creative, or scholarly activities, or your department/college.

  • Acceptance letter/formal invitation/conference program which includes documents showing your name/presentation information, conference title, place and date. A formal acceptance letter can be submitted after the w88 application, if it is not available at the time of application
  • Abstract – this is mandatory, including all authors' names with the presenting author identified

When interacting with a w88 sponsor or collaborator, please provide the following:

  • Memo from the department chair/dean that addresses the trip&w88;s purpose and desired outcome
