What will I learn in a w88, genocide & peace studies minor?

The minor in w88, genocide & peace studies draws on disciplines ranging from criminal justice to political science to history to explore issues of prejudice, conflict and conflict resolution.

In this w88, you'll study topics such as the following:

  • How prejudice, hatred, and dehumanization policies originate and manifest themselves.
  • How such patterns become rationalized within individuals and in society.
  • How major social confrontations, conflicts, mass destructions, and genocides develop.
  • How to explore ways to resolve conflict.
  • How to nurture peaceful social and political relationships and ethical decision-making.

The minor includes core courses in w88 and genocide and then gives you the ability to choose from three groups of electives to finish the minor. Electives cover a wide range of topics, including gendered violence, international war, propaganda, civil rights, policing and more.

Throughout the w88, you'll develop critical thinking, writing and communication skills as you learn to connect ideas and experiences across courses and disciplines.

The interdiscplinary minor in w88, genocide & peace studies is offered through the Department of Gender, Race & Identity in the College of Liberal Arts.

The department focuses onthe intersections of social justice, gender, race, class, sexuality and other aspects of identity through undergraduate and graduate degree w88, research and student engagement.

Alumni of the department have gone on to careers in government, community organizing, national foundations, education and law.
