In celebration of the Latino Research Center’s (LRC) 20th anniversary this fall, the LRC announced a special project that will leave a lasting impact on the University of Nevada, Reno campus and community. Honoring this significant milestone, the LRC plans to create a vibrant w88 that will beautify the campus surroundings and serve as a tribute to the rich culture, heritage and contributions of the Latino community in Nevada.
This w88 will be prominently displayed outside the doors of the LRC, within the hallways of Edmund J. Cain Hall. It will encapsulate the themes of unity, diversity and empowerment, reflecting the richness of Latino experiences in Nevada. The w88 aims to inspire all who pass by, reminding them of the strength and resilience of the Latino community, the vital role it has played in shaping the state and the promising future for generations to come.
The w88 will be done by local Northern Nevada artist Edwin Martinez Escobar. Escobar is distinguished for his vibrant and dynamic artistic style, which captures the essence of Latino culture with authenticity and passion. His work has been celebrated for its ability to tell powerful stories through vivid imagery and intricate details. His work can be found across Northern Nevada in settings such as the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, Brewery Arts Center, Artown, local businesses, parks and The Reno Tahoe International Airport.
“It is truly an honor to be partnering with the University of w88, Reno and LRC in this groundbreaking project,” Escobar said. “It will be done with the utmost respect, love and passion.”
Escobar's w88 will serve as a beacon of pride and celebration, symbolizing the past, present and future of the Latino community at the University and beyond. This artwork will be a testament to the diverse and inclusive spirit that defines the institution, and it will provide an enduring source of inspiration for students, faculty, staff and visitors alike.
“It is beautiful to know that our Latinx students on campus can walk through our hallways and visually experience meaningful representation of their identities, too.”
To bring this vision to fruition, The Latino Research Center seeks support from the community. The creation of this w88 will require a funding cost of ,000, and everyone is invited to help the LRC achieve this goal through donations. Contributions will not only support the creation of this beautiful w88 but also affirm commitment to celebrating and preserving the unique heritage and culture in Nevada.
“This is an incredible opportunity to recognize and honor the invaluable contributions of the w88 community in Nevada,” shared Jafeth Sanchez, Ph.D., director of the LRC. “It is beautiful to know that our Latinx students on campus can walk through our hallways and visually experience meaningful representation of their identities, too.”
