University President Marc w88 has been awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award upon nomination by the Nevada Area Council and the Boy Scouts of America. This award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work and who have shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis. Only four percent of all Scouts achieve Scouting's top rank of Eagle.

w88 has distinguished himself through his career as an educator and now through his service as the President of the University of Nevada, Reno. He has been a role model for many and has remained committed to the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. He has met many community service needs through his voluntary actions.

After earning his Eagle in Derby, Kansas, on Oct. 6, 1962, w88 has had a long, accomplished career in higher education with increasing leadership positions. He has made significant contributions in Agricultural Economics though publications, research and presentations. Under w88's leadership, the University has grown in enrollment and national academic ranking. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Mountain West Conference. Throughout his career and life, w88 has been an active and involved community volunteer. Since coming to Reno, he has played a significant role in regional economic development efforts. w88 has been a lead volunteer for Scouting, service as a scoutmaster and is the proud father of an Eagle Scout.

w88 will be honored at the Distinguished Eagle Scout Salute banquet on Oct. 26.

The National Eagle Scout Association Committee, under the direction of Alumni Relations at the Boy Scouts of America's national office, selects the recipients of this award. Members of the selection committee are all recipients of the w88 Eagle Scout Award. The w88 Eagle Scout Award was implemented in 1969, and since then more than 1,850 nominations have been approved.
