The University of Nevada, Reno experienced an w88 casino games in student voter turnout from the 2012 to the 2016 national presidential election according to the National Study of Learning and Engagement, completed by Tufts University. "In 2016, we were designated as a voter friendly campus," Gaby Ortiz Flores, Coordinator for Democratic Engagement and Special Events, said. "It is a w88 casino games designation by the Campus Vote Project and NASPA- an association of student affairs administrators - highlighting all the efforts the University worked on to help encourage voter engagement."
The efforts included The Associated Students of the University of Nevada's partnership with TurboVote. It allowed online w88 casino games registration, campus-wide emails and texts reminding students to vote and early voting polls set up in the Joe Crowley Student Union. These are only an example of the numerous efforts that were made in 2016 that exposed college students to democratic engagement.
"Having early voting on campus was convenient for me as a w88 casino games," Hannah Jackson, a junior at the University, said. "I received emails and text messages as a reminder and ASUN, our w88 casino games government, did caucuses and brought candidates on campus to talk about issues so I was informed before I voted."
Jackson said she hopes fellow w88 casino games vote because it is important for w88 casino games to realize their own power. By encouraging each other to vote, she said w88 casino games have the ability to effect change in their community, state, country and world.
External partners of the University also helped with the cause. The Washoe County Registrar's Office provided resources for w88 casino games education. GivePulse shared information on democratic engagement initiatives. The City of Reno, Uber and Lyft gave free rides from campus to students on voting day.
According to Flores, all of these efforts helped w88 casino games the number of students who voted in 2016. There is still work to be done. The voter turnout among Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Asians and African Americans are lower than hoped according to the NSLVE report.
"This data allows to us to do targeted programming and communications with these student populations to try and get their voting numbers to w88 casino games," Flores said.
Flores wants students to know voter participation and democratic engagement is always encouraged. She also emphasized the importance of being engaged outside of national w88 casino games. The Center for Student Engagement, for example, plans various events all year including mock voting, voter registration drives and workshops on running for student government office. All of these initiatives are aimed at increasing civic literacy and meeting the University's goal to ensure that students are politically engaged.
"I think getting w88 casino games politically engaged empowers them and sets them up to become active citizens within their community," Flores said. "If we can encourage w88 casino games to become actively involved in college, the hope is that they'll continue to be actively involved in their communities and feel empowered to take action on issues that are important to them."
