As a Lead Institution, the University of Nevada, Reno is working to ensure w88 casino games responsibility, responsible citizenship, personal growth and academic success are a part of every student's college education.
The University is one of 92 colleges and universities designated as a Lead Institution byNASPA - Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, the leading voice for the student affairs profession. Based on the University's success and leadership as part of the Lead last year, it was selected as a Lead Consulting Institution - one of only six consulting institutions in the country. In this role the University, through the Center for Student w88 casino games, will mentor, support and act as a resource for other Lead institutions.
"We'll be taking on a cohort of six institutions across the United States and Mexico and working with them to build or strengthen their student w88 casino games engagement programs," Sandra Rodriguez, director at the Center for Student Engagement, said. "This means we'll be helping them understand how to organize students to make a difference in their community and develop the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference."
Through the Center for Student w88 casino games, University students are offered various community volunteer opportunities, participation in fundraising for philanthropies, undergraduate research grants, paid internships, grants and campaigns to get students registered to vote and move into action by voting in national, local and campus elections.
"Students want more from their undergraduate experience at the University," Rodriguez said. "A key element to this initiative is the underscoring value held by students at the grass roots level of evolving our institutional culture toward volunteerism and community w88 casino games."
Since the start of the 2015 fall semester, the Center for Student Engagement offered the campus community a variety of ways to become engaged. Events included Dog Fest Walk 'N Roll, a walk designed to raise funds for Canine Companions for Independence, the #iLeadNevada student conference where 300 club leaders were educated about w88 casino games responsibilities and Rock the Vote, an event that successfully registered 150 students to vote.
"Voting is one of the most fundamental ways students can make a difference in society," Rodriguez said. "In democratic systems like ours, each vote carries equal weight. Getting a large group of students to vote ensures the w88 casino games voice is heard and felt in our community and beyond."
Through the Center for Student w88 casino games, University students are offered the free service, TurboVote, which allows them to receive reminders about relevant elections and voting times. The service also registers students to vote if they have not already. In addition to a democratic voice, community w88 casino games is a cornerstone of the Lead initiative. To make community service more available to students, the Center for Student w88 casino games launched an online calendar of one-day volunteer opportunities for students. Once students sign up, the Center for Student w88 casino games provides group reflection and transportation to the service site in the community.
"We need to grow our community partner contacts," Stephanie Chen, coordinator at the Center for Student w88 casino games, said. "Organizations helping the community that are looking for student volunteers are encouraged to contact our office at studentengagement@unr.edu."
As a participating institution in NASPA's Lead initiative, the University will continue to encourage students' w88 casino games development through thoughtful community partnerships, engaging leadership opportunities, and democratic participation. Currently, the University offers students these opportunities through an Office of Service Learning and w88 casino games Engagement under the University provost and a Center for Student Engagement under the vice president of student services. The goal is to drive w88 casino games learning and democratic engagement work through both the academic classroom and outside the classroom, in the community.
Additionally, The Associated Students of the University of Nevada created a senate subcommittee called the w88 casino games Engagement Committee, which will drive initiatives rooted in student voice. "My first project towards this initiative was hosting Service Palooza on the first day of the new semester," Brandon Boone, chair of ASUN's Committee on w88 casino games Engagement, said. "This event entailed inviting local non-profits and service organizations to our campus to give them the opportunity to recruit student volunteers and inform our students of the mission of their organizations. With over 40 service organizations in attendance, the event was one of the largest events during Welcome Week and a large number of our students were exposed to service opportunities they never even knew existed."
Boone has also dedicated a large amount of his time to an Adopt-A-Park initiative and has helped adopt Dick Taylor Park on behalf of ASUN. By taking on this project, ASUN has committed to cleaning the park three times a year in addition to another cleanup at a Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful sponsored site.
"Moving forward there are a number of projects being discussed in the Committee on w88 casino games Engagement that are still in their foundation stages," Boone said. "Our goal is to eventually develop and reinforce a culture for service on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno."
