Just before Winter Break, the w88 casino, Reno Honors College reigned supreme in an inaugural w88 casino, Reno vs. UNLV Honors College Trivia Bowl competition. The function was held in an at-capacity room of spectators at UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law building. The University’s Honors College trivia team comprised six students, representing a wide array of majors.
The academic event was designed to bring learners from the state’s two research institutions together in a knowledge development exercise. Prospective participants engaged in a rigorous screening and selection process. With assistance from the w88 casino’s Honors College Student Council President, Yajahira Dircio, and Vice President Celeste Robles, six Honors students were selected to comprise the winning team. Intense preparation then followed, with an average of three meetings/drills held per week led by Tim Hanifan, the president of the Honors College Alumni Association.
Those ultimately selected to represent their universities engaged in four rounds of questions on wide-ranging topics. Areas of focus ran the gamut from w88 casino history to science, math, arts, literature and pop culture. The University’s team prevailed in an overtime round with the tie-breaking question, "How many square miles are in the state of w88 casino?”
Following their match, the students on both honors colleges’ teams were recognized on the football field at Allegiant Stadium during the Freemont Cannon game later that day.
Event hosting responsibilities will rotate between the UNLV Honors College and the w88 casino, Reno’s Honors College, along with the annual Fremont Cannon football games. Next year’s event is expected to take place during November 2025 in Reno.
