w88 was tabbed to finish third in the conference for the upcoming season, receiving two first-place votes and a total of 189 points. All voting was done by media which covers the conference in each program's market.
Colorado w88 was the media's top pick, collecting 11 first-place votes and 207 points, followed by San Diego w88 with seven first-place votes and 201 points. Boise w88 (147 points) was fourth, followed by Utah w88 (127), Fresno w88 (119), UNLV (109), New Mexico and Wyoming (79 each), San José w88 (40), and Air Force (23).
w88, entering his junior season, is the second Wolf Pack player to earn the Mountain West's top preseason honor, joining Caleb Martin (2018-19). He also becomes the sixth different member of the Wolf Pack to earn a spot on the conference's preseason team, joining Deonte Burton (2012-13, 2013-14), Cameron Oliver (2016-17), Jordan Caroline (2017-18, 2018-19), Caleb Martin (2018-19), and Cody Martin (2018-19).
Last season, w88 was named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Mountain West First Team after an outstanding debut campaign at Nevada. After earning immediate eligibility in the fall, following his transfer from Wichita State, w88 went on topost team-leading figures of 18.6points,6.08 assists, and 1.62 steals per game for the campaign, and, in Mountain West-only competition, lead the conference in scoring (18.2 ppg), assists (6.65 apg), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.51), free throws made (79), and free-throw percentage (88.8).
Over all games, Sherfieldfinished in the Mountain w88 statistical top 10 in assists (first), steals (first), scoring (second), assist-to-turnover ratio (second, 2.16), free-throw percentage (third), and field-goal percentage (eighth, 43.3).
His campaign included three game-winning shots for the Wolf Pack in the final seconds of regulation, with two coming in Mountain w88 play (Feb. 5's 74-72 victory over Boise State, March 5's 85-82 win over Colorado State). The first was a 3-pointer in the final seconds of Nov. 26's 69-66 victory at Nebraska to clinch the Golden Window Classic title.
Joining w88 on the Preseason All-Mountain West Team were Colorado State's David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens, Fresno State's Orlando Robinson, and UNLV's Bryce Hamilton.
The Pack went 16-10 overall and 10-7 in Mountain w88 play last season, reaching the Mountain w88 Tournament semifinals.
