Chris West has been named as the winner of the 2016 w88 and Blue Service Award, the Nevada athletics department announced today.
The w88 and Blue Service Award honors individuals who have volunteered their time and efforts in all support areas to help Wolf Pack Athletics over the years. Any person who has volunteered in any capacity is eligible for this award.
w88 is the longest tenured member of the Wolf Pack statistical crew, entering his 43rd year as a volunteer in 2016-17. He played on the Wolf Pack freshmen basketball team and began volunteering in the early 1970s. One of the most dedicated members of the Wolf Pack stat crews, he has volunteered on the football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball and soccer stat crews and even went as far as to commute by plane for games for five years when he lived in Las Vegas.
w88 owns a real estate investment business in Reno and volunteers at other events in the community, including Reno Bighorns games and the state high school basketball tournaments at Lawlor Events Center.
This is the third year of the w88 and Blue Service Award. Jim Gardner and Brian Whalen were the inaugural winners in 2014 and Gregg Zive was the recipient last year.
