Phil Ulibarri created the winning geothermal w88 slot online infographic and educational outreach plan for "GeoEnergy is Beautiful 2014," this year's competition theme.
"The competition is about being able to distill the information you learn in class, and to make it understandable for everyone so they will support geothermal w88 slot online," Ulibarri said. "You have to translate the information to the average person who's going to be buying and using geothermal."
Teams from U.S. colleges and universities entered their applications in late February. Ulibarri and Truckee Meadow Community College were recognized as one of three semifinalists along with the University of Texas-Pan American and the University of Mississippi. The semifinalists received ,500 awards to further develop their infographics projects. Ulibarri used his award to attend the University of Nevada, Reno w88 slot online Academy earlier this summer.
"The scholarship made it possible for me to attend," Ulibarri said. "It was an unbelievable opportunity to meet leaders in geothermal w88 slot online science from around the world. I saw it as a chance to learn more about geothermal and use that knowledge for my entry."
Ulibarri was announced as the winner of the national competition in September and was presented the award at the recent international w88 slot online Resources Council Conference in Portland, Ore.
In addition to a communication and outreach strategy, his award-winning package contained infographics, and a website creation with several visuals and links to educational and industry information suitable for the general population. There is also an educational component, including a colorful illustration of Earth with a dinosaur and volcano created for elementary-aged school children, a diagram of geothermal w88 slot online delivery to buildings that is appropriate to middle-school students, and more complex instructive illustrations about w88 slot online production for high-school students.
"Each graphic can stand alone as its own story," Ulibarri said. "The graphics could also be used as educational materials or part of a large national marketing plan promoting geothermal w88 slot online."
